Can Cango Turn Bitcoin Mining Into an AI Compute Business?
Cango’s latest transformation is worth watching. The company moved from automotive services into Bitcoin mining in late 2024, and mining became the dominant source of its 2025 revenue. Management is now testing whether selected pieces of that power-and-compute footprint can support a second business: GPU-based AI infrastructure.
The strategic appeal is straightforward. Mining sites already require significant electrical capacity, cooling, networking and continuous operations. Those capabilities overlap with some of the requirements for AI compute, even though enterprise-grade GPU workloads demand different standards for uptime, power quality, connectivity, security and customer service.
Georgia is the first real-world test. Through EcoHash, Cango completed an AI-compute section within its owned 50 MW Georgia facility that can support up to 3 MW of AI load. An initial batch of GPU servers has been powered on, and part of that deployment has begun providing commercial GPU compute services. That makes this more than a presentation-slide ambition, but it remains early-stage proof of concept rather than a proven platform.
The central question is economic, not technical: can Cango earn attractive, repeatable returns from AI compute while reducing its dependence on Bitcoin mining? Public disclosures haven’t yet answered that. The company hasn’t identified customers or disclosed AI revenue, contracted capacity, GPU configuration, utilization, pricing, margins, capital expenditure or return on invested capital.
Investors also need to keep the legacy engine in view. Bitcoin mining remains Cango’s core business today, with results tied to Bitcoin prices, network difficulty, electricity and hosting costs, machine efficiency and hardware depreciation. The company’s rapid expansion has also brought dilution, significant counterparty relationships and a balance sheet that has required active deleveraging.
What to watch next
Meaningful AI-revenue disclosure; GPU utilization and margin data; a second successful site deployment; sustained mining-cost improvement; and disciplined funding for any AI expansion.
